Change Agent. Visionary. Civic Leader.
Assemblymember Stefani L. Zinerman is a proven legislative leader representing Brooklyn’s 56th Assembly District, proudly serving the communities of Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown Heights — The Vibrant 56. A third-generation resident, she brings deep community roots and bold, results-driven leadership to Albany.
In the past year, Assemblymember Zinerman delivered meaningful legislative wins that strengthen families, protect tenants, support homeowners, and expand opportunity. She advanced major consumer and property protections, including the Worst Landlord Bill which shields tenants from unsafe and exploitative housing practices; Homeowner Fraud Protection Act; and expanded safeguards against deed theft — critical tools to keep longtime residents in their homes amid rising property speculation. She secured significant capital investments to strengthen community institutions, including the permanent land conveyance for the Bed-Stuy Volunteer Ambulance Corporation at 727 Greene Avenue, ensuring long-term emergency response services rooted in the community. She continued implementation oversight of her landmark Community Hiring Act, holding agencies accountable to connect local residents to career-track jobs in public projects.
As author of the Plain Language Bill, she has made democracy more accessible by ensuring ballot language is clear and understandable. She also championed food justice by passing legislation guaranteeing free access to public water for community farmers, supporting urban agriculture and sustainability in neighborhoods historically excluded from food infrastructure investments.
Serving as Deputy Majority Whip and Chair of the Subcommittee on Emerging Workforce, Assemblymember Zinerman shapes statewide policy to align workforce development with emerging industries, including environmental resilience, infrastructure, healthcare, and technology. Her leadership focuses on one clear principle:
Affordability = Income + Housing Stability.
She believes Brooklyn stays affordable when families can earn more and stay in their homes.
Through her platform moving forward, she is focused on:
• Protecting Homeownership & Housing Stability – Strengthening anti-deed theft protections, abolishing the tax lien sale, supporting tenants, and advancing policies that prevent displacement.
• Workforce & Economic Mobility – Expanding career pipelines through Community Hiring implementation, labor partnerships, and emerging workforce strategies that connect young people and adults to living-wage careers.
• Public Safety & Community Health – Investing in community-based emergency response, maternal health equity, and violence prevention initiatives rooted in local leadership.
• Small Business & Cultural District Development – Advancing the Bed-Stuy & Crown Heights Small Business Strategic Plan, promoting equitable lending and Community Reinvestment Act accountability, and expanding arts and cultural tourism.
• Youth Civic Leadership – Scaling programs like the Underground Reading Railroad and “Power Up: Youth Leading Change” to prepare the next generation of organizers, policymakers, and entrepreneurs.
Beyond legislation, she has helped launch Age Friendly Central Brooklyn, a senior-led nonprofit ensuring older adults can age in place with dignity, and continues to build community-based institutions that outlast election cycles.
A member of the Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislative Caucus, the New York State Black Legislative Taskforce, and the Legislative Women’s Caucus, Assemblymember Zinerman advances justice through coalition-building and strategic governance.
Her campaign is grounded in a simple but powerful commitment:
Building Our Slice of Brooklyn - Together.
Through disciplined leadership, bold policy, and deep community partnership, Assemblymember Stefani L. Zinerman continues to deliver results — and is building the next chapter of equitable growth for The Vibrant 56.
