The Road To Reparations

As the Vice Chair of the New York Stae Black Legislative Taskforce (NYSBLT), it was a privilege to host the first “The Road to Reparations” event at the historic Medgar Evers College.

With support from President Patricia Ramsey and Dr. John Flateau, Executive Director of the Dubois Bunche Center at MEC, the panel discussions featured Legislators, Historians, and community experts, fostering a deep understanding of the significance of reparations.

Topics of discussion included the Historical Imperatives for Reparations in New York State and Legal and Ethical Foundations of Bill A.7691 with bill sponsor Senator James Sanders, Jr. from Queens and Dr. John Flateau. The second panel included Founder of the Center for Law and Social Justice Esmeralda Simmons, Esq. and The National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations (N"COBRA) Kenniss Henry who provided a comprehensive breakdown of the Strategies for Community Engagement and Reconciliation.
